Private K. Pritchard. Dannevirkc, is reported from the front to be seriously ill. "Mr Scott Colvillo, the well-known theatrical agent, was among those called up for military service in. the last ballot. Private advice has been received that Seigt. Will Heckler, who left with the Rilie Brigade, has been dangerously wounded in the head. Mr D. McKeeman. who was injured in. a recent run of the Manawatu Hunt Club, is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mr Cyril Day, who has been with Messrs Abraham and Williams for a considerable time, has been appointed acting-manager of the linn’s Levin branch. Mr W. G. K. Kenriek. S.M., has received notice of his transfer from Palmerston North to the Rotorua district. It is not yet known which magistrate will be stationed at Palmerston. Lieut. M. Gil my, accompanied by Mrs Gilray and two children, arrived in New Zealand by the last boat from Home. There was only one child when they left Home, a small son arriving - on the voyage. Lieut. Gilray has been granted six months’ furlough on account of his health.

The death occurred a.t Mauricovillo on Saturday of S ergt. Brooks, who -was for some time attached to the A.S.C. at Awapuwi Camp. Sorgt. Brooks was .suffering from, pleurisy and pneumonia and while in Wellington Hospital contracted tuberculosis. He returned to his homo in Mauricovillo apparently improved in health, but died last Saturday. He leaves a widow and two children. Members of the A.S.C. at Awapuui have gone to Mauriceville to attend the funeral. Mr Bailey, of Ontario, Canada, has been appointed organiser in the southern portion of the North Island for the now Prohibition League movement. Mr Bailey was secretary of the League which contributed materially in making the Dominion of Canada bone dry; and he was the Commissioner appointed by the Government to investigate the “faking” of the soldiers* votes on that occasion. Mr Bailey s district will bo from Wellington to Now Plymouth and Gisborne. Four organisers have been appointed, two for the North and two for the South. Island. The Rev. G.
