FARMERS’ PROBLEMS
STORAGE OF WHEAT AND WOOL PROFITS. [Per Press Association.] TIMARU, Last Night. A largely attended meeting of woolgrowers and fat lamb raisers to-day discussed the question of additional storage for frozen meat, especially lambs, in view of the acute shipping shortage. Mr E. C. Studholme opened the discussion by a proposal that the farmers interested should ask the Pareora works to provide additional storage, the farmers to find the money if 80,000 lambs were provided for. The cost would bo only 2s per head, and this he recommended as a moderate insurance against the cost of feeding through next winter (6s per head). After much discussion it was decided to ask the two companies to provide storage and charge Is a head extra, which -would cover the cost. This arrangement would place all farmers on the same footing whereas if the farmers found the means directly only those who contributed would have the right to space. A committee was set up to go into the matter further. The same meeting discussed the proposal by Mr Edward Newman, M.P., regarding the disposal of profits from the commandeered wool surplus in England. The meeting decided to express no opinion as it is unknown how the wool is to be dealt with or wdiether there will be any profits. ,
