Burial of Father Dore

CEREMONY AT FOXTON. The Iffte Chaplain-Captain Dora was buried at Foxton yesterday. The remains had beu conveyed to Foxton by motor hoarse the previous day, a largo number of Palmerston and Foxton residents joining the procession. The scholars and teachers of the public school stood at the salute as the cortege passed. On arrival at St. Mary’s Church, the Convent school children lined the route. During the time the body lay in state, large numbers visited the church, and a vigil was kept throughout the night. At 10 o’clock yesterday "morning a solemn requiem mass was performed. Monsignor McKenna (Masterton) being the celebrant, Father Forrestal deacon and Father Doolaghty snbdeacou. Father Cashman was master of ceremonies. Archbishop O ’Shea presided and pronounced the absolution, and Father Harnett preached a touching panegyric. He also thanked the military authorities for the respect shown and the impressive display which they had made; also the people of all denominations for their kindness to the late Father Dore since his return to Now Zealand.

At 2 o’clock the funeral left the church in the following order: School children, clergy in vestments and surplices, the pall-boarcrs and military escort under Captain Casserly. A large number of the general public followed on foot and there were 40 motor cars in the procession. All business premises were closed as a mark of respect and the blinds of private houses along tbe route wore drawn. Monsignor McKenna, assisted by the Rev. Father Forrestal, officiated at the grave side and a choir of clergy chanted the “Bcnedictns.”
