The probable starters and riders in the Wellington Cup are:— Chortle, 9.4, S. Reid. Teka, 8.5, J. Olsen. Multiply, 8.5, H. Gray. Adjutant, 8.4, F. E. Jones. Devotion, 8,1, G. Clarke. Square Deal, 8.0, W. Young. Snub, 7-13 r J. O’Shea. Bed Ribbon, 7.11, B. Deeley. Nobleman, 7.9, H. Young. Johnny Walker, 7.6, A. Reed. Miss do Val, 7.3, C. Emerson. Alteration, 6.7, N. K. M‘Donnell. The Wellington meeting this year promises to be a good one in every respect. The fields are good, the course in good order, and on present appearances the weather looks as if it is going to be fine. Proceedings open with the Apprentices’ Handicap, of 1 mile, for which the top weight, Subterfuge, has been withdrawn, leaving 13 runners. Rajput 8.0, Matilda 7.2, and Pervolo 7.0 look well in, and should run well. The Nursery Handicap, 4 furlongs, finds a fine field of 17 engaged, Killowen 9.6 being at the top of the handicap, and on recent form must have a royal chance of annexing the stake, although Demos 7.9 and Restful 7.4 from all accounts should keep him very busy. The Anniversary Handicap of 1 mile finds Multicipal 9.8 at the head of the handicap. He is also in the Cup with 7.3, and his connections may prefer to fly for higher game Comely 9.5 ran some good races last season. Brambletye 9.2 appears to be getting back to form, and from all accounts is very well at present. Gold Sonic ran a sterling race at Marton. Wishful, on the same mark, was favourite in last year’s Wellington Cup, but has done nothing of importance to be very largely supported. Prince Delaware 8.8 won two races at the same meeting last year. Sweet Tipperary 8.8 runs well under W. Young’s guidanc; and Probation 8.2 won a good race at last Wellington summer meeting, and is reported to be going well on the track. Mascot 8.0 and Bonnie Maid on the same murk are both well in. Bramblctye, Prince Delaware, and Mascot should fill the places. The Wellington Cup, 1% miles, should be a capital race, every acceptor appearing to have a chance. Nobleman 7.9 will no doubt start favourite, and everything points to him being the winner, although Multiply 8.5 and Devotion 8.1 will make him do his very best right to the bitter end. There is a fine field of 22 engaged in the Ruapehu Handicap, of 6 furlongs, our local mare, Polynesian, being top weight with 9.0, closely followed by Belair 8.13. None of the others engaged appear to be very classy, and if anything beats the two top-weights it may be Cooing 8.4 or Engari 7.2. The Telegraph Handicap, of 6 furlongs, is the second leg of the double, and will be a big betting race. Nanna 8.4 is the favourite pick, and form points to her as the winner. Others Well treated arc Parisian Diamond 7.11 and Crowhurst 7.2. The Trial Plate should bo a good go between Chimera and Ayah, who is reported to be starting in this race in preference to the Telegraph.

The Wellington Stakes, 5 furlongs, ►mould be a good thing for Hymostra, although a number of people give Finmark a chance. On this season’s form it will only be a “dog’s chance.”
