Jan. 1 and 2.—Stratford R.C. Jan. 1 and 2.—Marton J.C. NOTES. Things are really busy now in this district for any follower of the great game, and the next meeting is at WoodviUe. The acceptances are good, and convenient trains run from Pal- ' merston North to the town.- The WoodviUe appointments are a credit to the Club, and a source of real comfort to patrons. life Manawatu nominations appear in thus issue, and are tip-top. The Christmas carnival bids fair to be better this year than last. FoUowing on the Palmerston Meet- - ing ht Christmas time is the big Marton Meeting at New Year. Full dtails of the excellent programme appear in our advertising columns. Nominations close with the secretary, Mr A. Way, on Friday next at Marton^ A visitor from the South Island got the surprise of his life when he saw the Feilding Meeting. He said that anyone dropped from an aeroplane against the saddling paddock would think he was at a good Metropolitan Meeting where the cream of the country- were engaged. “Don’t boom my horse” -was a fairly common request at Feilding on Thursday, pointing ta the fact that more races are shortly to be run,,at WoodviUe. Clouds of punters and owners can see, o.r think they can see, an equaUy large cloud of certainties. . . a * LI The Cornet, a well-known South Island performer, has run his last race. He has been presented to a relative of Mr D. H. Roberts and wiU spend the rest of his days as a hack. Biplane, the imported Australian two-year-old in R. J. Mason’s tables, is reported to be very consistent in his wqrk down South, and will worry the Northern two-year,-olds in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, where he will meet Simonides, who beat him in the Welcome Stakes. A comment with a backhander in it is made in the last issue of the < * Australasian ”: There has never been a better owner or judge of racing in Australia than Mr George Stead, and he bred most of his horses. He raced for years without changing his trainer, R. J. Mason, or his jockeys, and never thought of blamiug employees when things went wrong. Lady Amai’s pretty name was a little more than a whisper in various towns, villages, and hamlets in the Dominion for the last race at Feild* ing. This rumour relieved the situation. in various strongholds whqye Client money came in in lashings. Bisogne got a very bad bump in the Stakes at Feilding on the first day, or the Taranaki flier would have been much closer. Auckland will show the true form of this brilliant sprinter. The non-success of Crowhurst created an atmosphere of depression amongst many good judges, who supported their judgment in the only true and proper way. They endeavoured to make up for the rout by “swinging” for Bimeter next day. *==== ' Nominations close at 8 o’clock with most clubs, but nominations Alf. Mahon’s summer wear close at six on week-days and nine on Saturdays. A fine range of smart goods- at genuinely reasonable prices.* ‘ Horse owners and trainers are re: minded that nominations for all e; <6to i ß at the Hawke’s Bay Club’s Summer M^ tllfl g } close with the Mr H., B. Moss, Market St., Hastings, Box 13, Phone 85, on Friday hekl at 8 o’clock. m New Zealand Cup is over, but ’thfete are lots more meetings. Mahon’s before starting out, and inspect his selection of smart summer weart Ties, collars, and hats; a fine treble at fair prices.*
