West End School Committee.
MONTHLY MEETING. * The monthly meeting of the West End School Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs C. W. Whitehead (chairman), C. Page, M. Withell, J. Atfield, L. Johansen, A. Ellis and A. O. Buchler (headmaster). Inspectors Milne and Stewart’s report was read to the meeting. The committee expressed its thorough appreciation of the report and carried a vote of congratulation to the staff. HEADMASTER’S REPORT. The Headmaster ’s' Report stated the roll was 306, the average to date being 278. The attendance of the senior classes -was very good. The proficiency test for Standard VI., as well as final examinations for promotion in the standards, would be held next week. The summer vacation would commence on December 20 and would end on January 31. The amount received for the Soldiers’ Fund to date was £34 6s l%d, and the amount paid out was £26 19s Bd. The amount in the bank was £7 6s Over £2O had been paid in this year to different funds. The report was adopted. It was decided to hold the annual picnic in conjunction with Terrace End School, and Messrs Whitehead and Page were appointed to confer with the Terrace End School Committee in the matter. The headmaster was asked to arrange the school sports to be held the school grounds early next year. It was decided to hold the break-up on December 19, at 2 p.m. The headmaster said that to form the nucleus of a prize and entertainment fund, a concert would be given at the school on Wednesday, December 26. The committee signified its willingness to assist in organising the concert.
