A "Trench" Election.
NOT WANTED BY MILITARY AUTHORITIES, (Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received Friday, 10.45 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 1. In the House of Lords, Lord Lansdowne announced that' the Government would make no further attempt to secure a new register, not even to enfranchise voteless soldiers and sailors or prevent the disfranchise-, ment of the remainder, hs high naval and military authorities’ objections to a trench election were more marked. Lord Salisbury protested that an election on the old register would disfranchise nearly all the soldiers and sailors.
