Mr E. W. Year, an efficient and courteous officer at the local receiving counter at the Post Office has been promoted to Wellington. A cable message from London announces the death in London of Mr T. J. West, pioneer of the movies business in Australasia. A* The many friends of Mr John Hill, of Bongotea, will regret to hear of his death, which occurred yesterday, after a long illness. The deceased, who had been a resident of Bongotea for the past 15 years, was 60 years of age, aiid loaves a wife and grownup family to mourn their loss. The news has been received by Mrs James Pyo, of Terrace End, of the death in action on Novmber 12 of Lieutenant Arthur Jones, who will lie 1 remembered as a former sergeant in the “J” Battery, which has given many fighting men to the ranks of our active forces. Just previous to the outbreak of war Mr Jones with Ilia wife and family removed from Palmerston to Nelson, but on the formation of the Main Body Mr Jones offered his services, was accepted, and went through his training at Awapuni, going away with the rank of sergeant in the artillery? His services were eventually rewarded with a commission. Mrs Jones and family reside in Wellington, but were on a visit to Sydney when the sad news was received this week.
