f'lrsplain-Captain Dore left for Wellington yesterday. The Rev. Father Forrestal, Mr C. A. Loughnan, and Mr J. M. Johnston returned to Palm erst on. by the Main Trunk express this morning from Wellington. Mr and Mrs 0. Selby, Feilding, celebrated their golden Avedding on Tuesday last. There was a gathering at the home of the old couple to celebrate the event. . j

At last night's meeting of the Campbell Street School Committee a vote of symp'athy was passed to Mrs Horsnell whose son Sergt. W. Horsnoll had been wounded in France.

The many friends of Mrs J. E. Wingate, of Fitzherbert, will regret tu hear that she is at present an inmate of Nurse Roby's Private Hospital, suffering from pneumonia. Her many friends will wish her a speedy recovery.

Private Fred. Young, of the 18th. Reinforcements, who was accorded a jfarewell social at Linton last night, «is a son of Mr F. M. Young, of Linton. Lieutenant Albert Young, a brother of Private Young, went away; with the 1/th Reinforcements. ■

Mr Charles Williams, for many years a -resident of Levin, died on. Wednesday at Nelson; For the past four or five years he had been mine host of the Tasman Hotel, Nelson. In Levin he took a groat interest in local body affairs, and served a term on the, local borough council. He was affectionately known as ''the Mayor of Wererou," in recognition of the way iii which he worked to safeguard the interests of the southern • end of Levin.

The New Zealand medical profession has contributed its full quo,ta to the Array Service Corps, and already six of her doctors have made the supreme sacrifice. Dr. Savage, of Auckland, a man with a Dominion reputation, died on service in Egypt; Dr. Bell gave up his life in Mesoputamia; and with them the roll of honour is shared by Dr. Guthrie (Feilding), Dr. Huntfy Woods (Canterbury), Dr. C V. Bogle (Waipukurnu), and Dr. A. A. Martin. Three other members of the profession hav* been wounded, viz.. Dr. Peerless (Nelson), Dr. McLean (Wellington), and Dr. H. H. Good (Whangarei). Writing from London on July 27th,. Sister Fowler, of Nelson, states (says the "Mail") that she has received orders that she was to proceed to France in the neur future. She also mentioned that there was a great shortage of nurses in England at the time of writing. The British troops were engaged in their big advance and wounded were pouring into England. The War Office was advertising extensively iter trained nurses, and Sister Fowler remarks that "it locks as if it might become compulsory for nurses to serve in the war before it is ended, as such a lot •£ the girls are breaking down through overwork." The letter concludes: "We are staying at the Quoen Mary Hospital, a free place for war nurSes and especially open' to overseas nurses. It is a charming place to stay at. It is run by the Red Gross Society, and has quite a number ,of influential folk at the head of it. Hie Qaeen is a patroness, and she was here last w#ek and was talking quite a time with the New Zealanders who are here."
