Mr E. L. Broad left for the Bay of i'ienty by the Main Trunk express this morning.

Major J. Mounsey, who, holds a responsible position in the Stores Department at Trentham Camp, is speeding a few days on leave in I'almerston.

Captain W. G. Smith, who has been on active service with the N.Z. Veterinary Corps in f jjpt, is returning to the Dominion, on duty, by the Faloona, which is expected to arrive at the Bluff shortly. The marriage took place at Napier on Wednesday of Miss Hilda May Herdman, fourth daughter of Mr J. Herdman, manager of the" Carterton gas-works, to Mr William Scott, of Palmerston North. The ceremony took place in the Napier Cathedral. Staff Sergeant-Major Butler, of the Palmerston North Defence Office, has been transferred to Wellington as Area Officer. At the annual festival of the Salvation Army last night, the Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash), moved a vote of sympathy with the widow and family of the late Mr J. Tremain'. Amongst those killed in action appears the name of Captain Douglas Playfair Eraser, aged twenty-eight, who was well-known in Stratford, having been for a short time engaged in the Strattford oihce of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Captain Fraser was associated with the late Sergeant-Major Bonar, and was regarded as a very popular officer when in command of No. 95 Company, Stratford Senior Cadets.
