OTAKI RACES. SECOND DAY. BENE WINS PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP. The weather was fine with the exception of a slight flhower at commencement of first race. The attendance was again fair. The sum of £11,945 passed through the machine, jnaking a total of £28,940 for the meeting, as against £25,618 for the spring of last year. Results: — TRIAL HANDICAP, of 75 sovs; 5 furlongs. 1 D. Parawanui moved off at a fast pace, Naupata and Happy Jack went with him, and the jumped the first obstacle together. At the next jump Parawanui was just slightly in the lead, but it proved too much for him and he fell. This left Happy Jack in front, Naupata a length away second. Merry Jack and Katua several lengths away in the rear. There was no change in the position of the field as thev passed the stand the first time, but' on going off the course proper Naupata led by three lengths from Happy Jack. Naupata struck the third fence from home and was almost down, but MeSweeney the rider made a good recovery and overtook •Happy Jack and won comfortably by six lengths, a neck between second and third.
