THE WAIRARAPA SHOW

The thirty-seventh annual show of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society was opened on Wednesday. The weather was fine and sunny. The attendance was about the same as usual for an opening day, but 3rst day crowds contain very few of the general public, being composed chiefly of officials, exhibitors and so on. The entries are only six less than the entries at last year's show, s,nd last year's entries established a record numerically. The Holstein division fell entirely to Mr W. I. Lovelock, of Palmerston. Mr David Buchanan's stock and the stock from the Porirua Mental Hospital fought out the Ayrshire section. These competitors gained two firsts each in the bull classes, and in the cow classes also they divided the honours fairly evenly. There were no other competitors. Mr E. Eagle, of Belvedere, was once more considerably in evidence with a nice lot of Jerseys. He annexed no fewer than six of the first prizes, including the bull championship, which fell to his two-year-old bull Belvedere Roberts. Mr W. H. Booth won the cow championship with Rewa Aster, and firsts were taken by Messrs E. B. Eagle and Tom McKenzie.

The fat cattle are a very valuable lot. Sir Walter Buchanan (3), Messrs W. Howard Booth (2), and J. W. Buchanan (2) took the first prizes. In the classes for dry milkers, fir&» prizes were won by Messrs J. A. Ordish (2), Moore Bros,, W. A. Hart, R. Seymour (2), and H. Rayner.
