ALLEGED BOMBARDMENT OF WARSAW. ' (Times. —Sydney Sun Service.) Received 6.15 p.m. STOCKHOLM, Oct. 28. Reports state that Warsaw was bombarded by a German air fleet. The inhabitants were horrified on seeing the Zeppelins approach, and many aeroplanes swooped over the town and dropped a shower of bombs. Russian guns mounted on conspicuous buildings vigorously replied. 'FIVE DAYS' FIERCE FIGHTING. Received 12.5 a.m. PETROGRAD, Oct. 28. The conflict before Warsaw was conducted fiercely for five days. A long train of wounded came in together \ijith bands of German and Austrian prisoners. Villages are burning in all directions. Tlie German shells burst within four- miles of the town yet the city remained thronged with people. Even aerial visitations did not panic the populace, although 50 were killed and 99 injured. Villages were taken and re-taken many times in the fluctuations of the battle. The German trenches were admirably constructed as for a long stay, but the precision of the Russian artillery wrought desolation among tho invaders. Then the Russians forced back the German wing beyond Kalosch road, while cavalry from the north cut into their rear. The Russians crossed over ten miles south of Warsaw unopposed and found that the German retreat meant that they began to be iafraid of being caught in a vice by the Russian Armies operating north am. east. Their retreat was unexpected. GERMANY ADMITS RETREAT. An official message from Beriin says the Germans and Austrians wore compelled to retreat from Poland before fresh Russian troops from Ivargorod and Warsaw and the German reserves had changed their formatiou in accordance with the new circumstances.
