Mr Witchell, who for some years lias been manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Foxton, has been transferred to Dargaville. Madame Melba leaves London on June 11th for Australia, where she will stay till January. Mr T. Sherrard, of Pahiatua Post Office staff, has been transferred to

Wellington. Mr Durant, of W'aih will succeed Mr Sherrard.

Mr Charles Nicholson, of Woodville, who has been an inmate of Palmerston hospital owing to his recent accident at the railway station, was able to return to his home on Friday.

Miss Ellen Terry, the famous English actress, arrived by the Manuka at Auckland on Sunday. Miss Terry will have a week's rest at Rotorua before she starts her New Zealand tour. Trior to his departure for Sydney on Wednesday, where she and her mothe- intend residing, Miss Calvert, of the staff of Messrs W. F. Durward and Co., was presented with a set of toilet requisites. Air Wm. Andrews, who has been applied art master at Wanganui Technical College for the last sixteen years, was on Thursday evening farecelled by the staff and students of the college, and presented with a gold watch. Mr Andrews goes to Auckland to take up a similar position in the Technical College there. Mr H. N. Vivian, who for the past ten years has been on the staff of Messrs Holben and Kirk, has severed his connection with that firm to manage the extensive mail order and advertising interests of Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame. His late employees and the staff presented him with a handsome piece of silver plate.
