Mr W. Burgess, of the staff of College street school, has been appointed headmaster of Fitzherbert East school. Mr W. Beswick, postmaster, who is at present on leave, has returned to Palmerston from a four weeks' visit to various parts of the South Island. The Governor of Queensland, Sir Wiu. McGregor, announces that he intends remaining in office till the end of his term, excepting for a month's leave, to which he is entitled. It was previously reported that he intended resigning. General Godley states that Colonel Heard, who returns to England shortly. is to be succeeded by I jeut.-Colonel W. G. Braithwaite as Chief of General Staff, and Lieut.-Colonel Collins is to be succeeded by Colonel E. W. C. Chaytor as Adjutant-General. Mr S. Saunders will retire from the position of editor of the Lyttelton Times on June 13 when he will be succeeded by Mr M. Reading. Mr Edward Saunders, who has been asso-ciate-editor of the paper during the past live years, will take the position of chief of staff. —Association. The Rev. D. C. Bates, Government Meteorologist, is a passenger for Sydney by the Maunganui. which left Wellington last evening.
