Order-in-Council prohibiting artisans, Asiatic or otherwise, entering the Dominion during the next six months. As a result the Order-in-Council prevents the admission of a shipload of Hindus seeking entry at Vancouver. Gurdit Singh, a wealthy Hindu aboard the Ivomataga Maru, was refused permission to land, and therefore is unable to carry his case to the Dominion Courts. Extensively signed protests are reaching the Government against admitting Hindus. It is pointed out that if the present arrivals are admitted the Canadian laws w.ll become a farce and Caiiada T\ould icmain open to the whole population ji. India if it wished to enter the Dominion. The Premier (Mr Mcßride), commenting on the arrival of Hindus, pointed out that it is a singular coincidence that Hindus are attempting to enter Canada when the Imperial Government is engaged in a solution of vexed domestic problems. It was impossible to agree in a moment. The Hindus claim as British subjects that they are entitled to enter British dominions. Canada excluded even Englishmen, if undesirable. Canada freely admitted India's right to exclude Canadians, and asked in turn if India admits Canada's similar right.
