ANNUAL ELOCUTIONARY COMPETITIONS, Mr De Spong, of Dunedin, who is also judging at Masterton, has been engaged to judge the Competitions this year and has forwarded the se-

lected pieces to Mr Opie, Director of the Technical School. These will be put into the printer's hands as soon as possible so that intending competitors may get the pieces to study. The elocutionary class at the Technical School has started work under the tuition of Miss Pees, who has been appointed instructress. Miss Pees comes with splendid qualifications, she having received instruction from the widely-known Professor Hasluck, Regent Street, London; she also was principal of the. Lyric School of Elocution, Wellington, and proved herself a competent teacher. All the factors and adjuncts of elocution are taught, and individual atten- • tion given to every student. There- ! fore all intending competitors who , are not at present receiving any in- j struction should make it their business to join the Technical School class.
