CABLE CHARGES.

IMPERIAL GOVEfcNMENI'B * COMPLAINT. NO PRESENT REDUCTION POSSIBLE. Pnm Awn—By Telegraph— Copyright Received 1 20 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. A despatch from the Imperial Government regrets that so far it has not been practicable to obtain a reduction of the rate of trans-At-lantio code telegrams, but it wiU come up for consideration together with the rates for deferrel telegrams and cable letters in a year's time. It is doubtful whether it will be possible to arrange a material alteration in the charge of code telegrams to Australia while the terminal charge in the Commonwealth for tull rate messages remains as high as five pence a worl. It would be uifficult for the Imperial Government to support a Stat* owned Atlantic cable since tbat would be unable to be woiked on a commercial basis without a deficit of twenty thousand per annum.
