THE NEW DANDIES. Mr Edward Branscombe*s Costume Cornedv Company 'The Dandies' whoie'motto I*, "merrier and brighter than ever," and whose chief characteristics are said to be cleverness and culture, is to appear for three nights at the Opera House, commencing on Saturday evening next. This company of entertainers who are making their first appearance in Palmerston North are spoken of as being one of the brightest costume company that have toured New Zealand for some time. There are eleven art* ists in the company, all of whom are new to New Zealand, with the exception of three, who were members of the original Scarlet Tronbadonrs. The new company is exceptionally rich in c medians and dancers. As a dancer Mr Tier, the leading comedian, is unequalled in his olass. His work has dash and subtlety, it is alive with genial humour, and it is never less than brilliant. So with the others, each is perfect in bis or ber speciality; there are no underlingtt or fill nps. The la ies are a strong and constant attraction. They sing admirably, and their comedy work is convincing at every point. The personal of the company is as follows: Miss Lilv Fitzgerald soprano; Miss Peggy Ross, contralto; Miss Rita Fitzgerald, comedienne; Mr Ford Waltram, basso; Mr Percy Agnew, tenor, Mr George Edwards, comedian; Mr Marshall Lawrence, bar! tone; Mr Joseph Brennan, monologuist; Mr Athol Tier, eccentric dancer; Mr Frank Peachey, baritone; and Mr Philip Har man, pianist. Toe companies differ in their personnel an i peculiar endowments, but the quality is consistent. A striking proof of the excellence of the company is the fact that it successfully sustained a six months' season in Brisbane, and the report that many were turned away nightly during the recent Auckland season. At the Municipal Opera House tonight 'The Night Side of London" the drama which deals with modern London will mark the appearance in Palmerston Norf> of an entirely new Marlow Dramatic Company. The producti* n is fresh from its London an i Australian success. A feature of the piece here will be the fact that the drama will be presented on exactly the same scale as in Australia. "The Night Si >e of London" tas proved to the testes of t»ie audience wherever staged, and t we are plenty of thrilling incidents and dramatic sensations in the drama. There are four acts and numerous scenes embracing the village at Closeminster, a typewriting jfflce in London, with t ,e girls at work, a view of London streets by night witi the snow falling, the interior of the Night Olub in Lon dou, with the well dressed crowd and richly liveried servants, Naomi Merricks apartments an • a hut on the Thames. The drama presents a vivid picture of life in London by night, and has something of the problem drama about it to, so t at it sifould appeal to all sections of the theatre commanity. Tue cast is the identical one which played the piece in the centres of Australia and includes such well known names as—Misses Elwyn Harvey, Pearl Helnirich, Oriel Holson, Messrs Robert lnman, Vivian Elwards, D'Arcv Kelway, Tiios. E. TiltoD, P V. Scully and many others too numerous to mention. He t aces tier to London, bnt she is adamant to his pleadings. She is used as a decov, and in that capacitv she is instr mental in achieving much that is ignoble. Before everything is righted the villain an < his accomplices continue to gamble witn life, ultimately to their complete undoing. Beautiful scenery will be used for the pro uction, while t v >e whole company of artists will take part.
