POLICE COURT.
YESTERDAYS' SITTINGS. . (Before Messrs S. Abrahams and W. F. Durward, J's.P.) ALLEGED FORGERY. F. Wilson, alias John Henry Hurley, alias Bruoe, alias AnnersOi., alias Walsh was o arged that on July 28, at Palmerston, he did forge a cheque for £6 7s drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, ville, purporting to be signed by S. Bolt n, and did utter the same to H*nry Baker Further, that on July 27, at Bulls, he did forge a oheque for £5 10s, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand at Marton, purporting to be signed by J. Harris, an l uttered the same to Ohas Erf win Hosking. 3as. Sore, grocer's assistant, residing at Woo ville, salt about July 22 last the acoused oame into his shop and obtained a blank cheque He said te wanted to pay the man next door some money. He looked at some sprey pumps and sail he would be wanting one in a day or two. He gave the blank cheque and reoeived a penny in payment for it. Henry Baker, proprietor of the Clarendon Hotel, Palmerston, said accused came to the hotel on July •2i and bnokei a room. He intimated that he woull stay f r tnree or four days He produced a cheque lor £6 ?. Witness deducted for the board and gave accused £5 2s6t change Accused said the cheque was Mr Bolton's of Mangatainoka. The cheque subsequently proved to be Vftlllfildßß Lawrence Ashley, ledger keeper at the Bank of New Zealand, Wood* ville, said the c eqoe was received on July 25, and was returned to Palmerston marked ' signature unlike." Ernest J P. Simpson, secretary to Mr Bolton, said the signature on the cheque produce i was not Mr Boltons. Detective Sergeant Quirke said he cnaraed the accused with the offenoe, and he replied "I know nothing about it.' Accused pleased not guilty, ana was committed to the Supreme Court foi trial at Wellington on November 3. On the seoond oharge accused was reman f ed to appear at Marton on Tnursday.
