The Socialist Congress at Jena hotly debated subject of a universal strike if the German Government failed to reform the Prussian franchise. Two hundred voters against 150 decided to support the executive, whicti was against an immediate strike. Militants demanded sharp revolutionary tactics. The executive warned the conference that a strike would be madness,, and woul I lead to a catastrophe. Other speakers recalled that eight millions bonrgeoise, including millions of working men, were opposed tj four and a '- alf .millions. To be socoessfal the workmen must be provided witd food for several weeks. Bernstein stated fiat the Swelish strike resulted in a collapse of the trade unions.
