Mr R. W. Shallcrass, Wellington, well-known for some years in cycling, running and athletic circles, was yesterday appointed secretary of the N.Z. Sportß Protection League, in succession to Mr A. A. Paape.

Thirty valuable oil paintings by Harry W. Kirkwood will be sold by auction on Saturday, 20th, at 230 p.m, in the shop ntxt Standard office, the Square. The pictures are now on view in Hancock's window. As Mr Kirkwood is leaving shortly for Sydney, this will be the last opportunity Palmerston people will have of securing specimens of this artist's work. Private sales can be arranged.
