MR KIRKWOOD'S PICTURES.
One of oar roost prominent artists. Mr A. W. Kirkwoo-, now resident at WaManni, is at present displaying samples from his brush in Palmerston, in Mr Hancock's winc'ow, ttie Square. T } iere is great distinction about Mr Kirkwood's work. It i 8 entirely New Zealaui scenes that are at piesent being shown He obtaius a colouring peculiar to New Zealand scenery and his colour perspective particularly in evening effects is exceptionally noticeable. There is also warmth and considerable brea th. Many of his works find place in New Zealan > in the best company. Some of the subjects are Lake Te Anau, with evening effects, a very tine subject in eed; Off Portohei'o; Smith Sounds; Milford Sound; A Wairarapa Landscape in Autumn tints; Lako Manap uri; seascapes; Arrow Rock, Nelson; and road and wayai *e scenes, some of them iu Nelson an i some in toe West Ooa»t. One or two of them are Bems. On Saturday an auction sale for their (lis. osal will be held by Messrs Mouusey and Co.
