Christian De Wet addressed a great meeting at Pottchesftroom in support of Mr Hertzog. The majority at the meeting consisted of Mr Botha's supporters. Pandemonium followed and the police ejected many. A vote of confidence in Mr Botha was carried, and De Wet thereupon declared Botha was supporting the Unionists. This renewed the uproar. Commenting on the mission of Mr Watt (the Victorian Premier now in London) the Financial Times states that though acting primarily for Victoria, he is engaged in initiating a business which must redound to the benefit of the whole of Australia. Pernaps ;he may be considered as an informal envoy of the whole of the States. His survey of Victorian finances shows that the State is as sound as a bell, and Mr Watt rang out its changes with a firm and confident hand. 1
