His Honour the Chief Justice is recovering from his indisposition. Mr G. Johonson, postmaster, of Ashhurst, is being promoted to Kaokuoa, and Mr L. Stansell, Ashhurst stationmaster, goes to the traffic office, Wellington. Mr R. McNab returned from Wellington last evening, where, as a member of the Post and Telegraph Appeal Board, he has been engaged preparing things for handing over to the Civil Service Commission, who take control to-morrow. Mr Poynton, SM., who was also engaged on the same work, returned last evening.
Mr Valentine Archer, who has been in business in Palmerston North for the last 16 years, is now going to enter the farming industry at Te Kuiti. Prior to his departure the members of the Wood and Coal Merchants' Association met and presented him, through their chairman, Mr C. N. Clausen, with a travellirg bag. Mr Clausen spoke of the high esteem in which the departing guest was held among all the members and wished him great success in his new undertaking. Mr Archer suitably replied, and said he would always have a soft spot in nis heart for Palmerston North.
