W.C.T.U. CONVENTION.
(Press Association.—By Telegrapn. Nelson, Last Night,
TheW.C.T.U. convention to-day adopted resolutions protesting against packet licenses being issued for coastal and river steamers; against the transmission of betting matter by the post and telegraph services ; urging that engine drivers, pilots, and signalmen should abstain from intoxicants; expressing sympathy with the relatives of Capt. Scott and his comrades; commending the action of Judge Edwards in ordering offenders against women and children to be flogged, and urging an amendment of the law to enable those guilty of criminal assaults to be similarly dealt with. The Union also passed a resolution congratulating residents in the American States which have carried manhood suffrage. Rev. G. Dawson, secretary of the New Zealand Alliance, addressed the convention on the progress of he prohibition catnpain.
