ATHLETICS.
N.Z. CONFERENCE. (Press Association.—By Telegraph Blenheim, Last Night. The New Zealand Cycling and Athletic Union Conference resumed to-day. Officers were elected as follows President—John Kennedy (Geraldine). Vice-presidents —D. F. McKay (Dunedin), V. J. Clarke (New Plymouth), W. S. Clarrender (Hastings). Committee—A. Hai'sey (Taranaki), I. Gilfedder (Auckland), A. J. Fisher (Blenheim), J. F. Wilson (West Coast), J. Collingwood (FeildMlg). The Executive conferred with the representatives of the Hibernian Sports Society with a view to settlement of the Campion incident, the outcome of which was the suspension of the Society by th& Union. It was eventually decided to divide the prize money in dispute (about £9O) equally among Darby, Campion, and Leahy, the lirst three in the race. The other £lO is being split up among the next three men. The suspension of the Hibernian Society was removed
Mr Hun*mi (Taranaki) proposed a new rule that no secretary or any other official shall compete in any event except a committee race.—Carried. A motion to meet bi-annually instead of annually was lost. The Otago delegates' proposition that entry by wire be binding on competitors was carried, g It was decided, on Mr Campbell's (Otago) motion, that all secretaries be insured and find a bond. Auckland was selected for the next conference. A number of minor alterations were made in the rules.
A remit from North Canterbury to alter the southern boundary line to take in all districts north of Asliburton, aud reduce the South Canterbury boundary accordingly was strongly resented by South Canterbury and was defeated. With respect to finances, it was stated that the credit amounted to £47 and the liabilities to £1 10s.
