LAST NIGHT'S MEETINGS

We had a plethora of meetings last night-Mr McNab at Terrace End, Mr Thomson at the Municipal Hall, and Mr Guthrie at Feilding. Mr Thomson referred to our criticism of his statement".! that Sir Jcs?ph Ward threw o°er his friends. Messrs Mills and Duncan, and that Mr Seddon would not have done so. Hedeohued that he

"Knew for a faot that Mr Mills had to leave the Cabinet in Sir Jcssph Ward's time, that be was asked to resign by Sir Joseph Ward, and didn't like it at all, and tint during Mr Seddon's time there were one or two people going round the country saying they were better'fitted for the positions, but it was not meutioned by Mr Seddon, and he didn't believe Mr Seddon would have iisteued to it.'" And the speaker proceeded to deolare that Sir Joseph Ward had thus turned on his frienls and the man who did that was a cnr who should be turned out of New Zealand. The above statement of course is an entire begging of the question. The facts as we pointed out were that Mr Seddon asked Mr McNab and Mr Millar to join his Ministry iu place of Messrs Mills aud Dnnoan. He died before the arrangement oould be cairied out and Sit Joseph Ward carried out what- his late chief had contemplated. Itis all on record in the press, for Mr McNab told the whole story in August, 1906, at the banquet tendered him at Goxe on his joining the Ward Ministry.
