The final figures for the elections in the State of Maine, Rive a majority of 26 for the anti-Prohibitionists. This reslilt does not, however, settle the issue of Prohibition or otherwise. It -merfely-repeals the constitutional amendment. The legislative enactment which provided for Prohibition was passed' "before the constitutional amendment was passed, and therefore it still exists and qan only be repealed I>V a referendum vote. Consequently ' the State remains Prohibitionist. Gov- • ernor Plaistow decided on Monday to • accept the correction of the votes of two towns, thus reversing the previ- ■ ous result. VICTORY CLAIMED FOR PROHIBITION. By Telegraph—Tress Association. Christcluircli, Yesterday. Rev. John Dawson to-day received • a cable from Dr. Berry, of AVaterville, Maine, stating that the official recount showed a majority of 758 against the repeal of the prohibitory amendment in the State Constitution, American papers show that the voting Maine was on the following ' issue:— "Shall the Constitution he amend ed so as to abrogate and annul tlu 26th amendment adopted on Septem \ her 8,1884, relating to the manufac ture and sale of intoxicating liquor?'
