By Telegraph— mil Association. luvwcwgill, Last Night Iu the course of his speech at Winton to-night the Premier said that the importance of a daily connection between the two islands, joining up with the last train at' Lyttelton for Wellington as the case might bB, was generally rocognisad. For some time past he had discussed with Sir James Mills, managing director of the Union Company, the importance of another .'steamer of tiia "Maori'' class being put on this run, and he" announced that he was within the last few days advised by the Unioa Company that they had given orders to build a steamer of the "Maori" class, but larger and faster, to take the place cftho"Mararoa.'j With tliesa two line steamars there would be a oonnecfced service by the last express from the South Island and last express from the North Islaud, and the advantage to the people would be very great indeed. They would have between the two islands one of the best, if not the very best steamer feiry services in the world.
It said much for the enterprise of the Union Steamship Uompany that they were providing a second steamer. More so as they receive no subHid? whatever from the Government beyond payments for carrying mails. He wished to publicly ao&nowledge the appreciation of the Government of the enterprise which involved no donbt considerable financial risk to them, and of what they had accomplished in this respect.
