The finanoial aspect for farmers, ARpeciallv small ones, is mnst serions if prohibition were carried. Yon, are already faond with various taxes, the cost of living has gone np, wages have increased, and promise to further increase public works have to be oonstrncted, military and naval defeuce provided. Local government taxes must grow heavier. What is the prospect nuder prohibition? It is this: Neaily £1,000,000 of money most be found to provide to oany on the pre«eiit Governmental expenses. Who is going to pay it? Over £250.000 per annum is paid by breweries in.New Z' aland for barley for malting, and approximately £IOO,OOO per annum for Hops, If the' teetotal party is going to force the country to drink tea instpal of beer, the Chiuaman, the Hindou and Oinaglesß tea growers will collect that £350,000 because the white .farmers in New Zealaud can't grow tea.
