The Jock Willis-Dave Smith Combination.

The above combination will inaugurate a season of two nights at the Opera House on Monday next, June 26th, when au exceptionally fine programme will be submitted. The following is an extract from the Grev River Argns of May 80th: "Jook Willis felt proud last evening, no doubt, when his oompany of Cale> donian Entertainers, iuolnding Mr Dave Smith, New Zealand's ohampion middleweight boxer of the world, were greeted at the Opera Honse with sooh a fine audience as turned up, notwithstanding the inolemenoy of the weather. Every item on the well arranged pro. gramme reoeived an enoore, and it was deserving, for the management had seleoted items for the opening night whioh oomorised all the 'old old songs.', We havo not space enough to do this talented combination the justioe they deserve.! but Jook Willis is well known to all onr readers as a first quality artist, and to our mind last evening he excelled himself, and the audience wanted him all the time. Mr Edward Head: lam is an expert of the iostrnment. ever whiob lie presided (the piano) and bis monologue items were both numerous and artistically rendered. Mr Tarn MoLean rendered four items and was well reoeived eaoh time. Mr Oolin Oamprou was heard to better advantave in. the quartette singing than in his songs, although he has a sweet voice aud wafl muoh appreciated. Mr R. Ferguson and Mr Cameron, in the duet "All's Well," were a musioal treat and they had to respond to a well merited enoorp. In the second part of the programme Mr Dave Smith gave a physical and boxing exhibition. The stage appearance in this portion nf tlie entertainmeur. was delightfully arranged, and the exhibition wbb an eye opener ti all those olosely acquainted with the fistio art. Mr Smith is well worth seeing. He explains eaoh blow before it is.deliveretl, and there might never be another chanoe of witnessing sooh a scientific boxer in these parts. Ho is no advertising draw. He has wen his fame in the ring, and Inst night's exhibition proved to all that he is the smartest and olevfrest exponent of the art that has ever visited the W«st Coast.
