PAINFUL TRAGEDY.

OHILD FALLS FROM A TRAIN. AND INSTANTLY KILLED. (Presi Association), Gisborne, LaEt Night. A shocking fatality ocourred tbis evening at Te Kaiaka. railway station. A ilttle girl, Norma Phillips, aged years with her mother boarded the train at Te Karaka. JoEt prior to the train moving off Mrs Phillips rushed out of the carnage andjj'on to the platform to recover a parcel ! which she had forgotten. Her little ! daughter followed and just reached the outer phtform of the carriage when the train oommonced to move. The ohild was thrown ont on to the permanent way on the outside of the train and the wheels passed over her neok almost severing the head from the body. The child's mother was almost fiantio with grief. The father racently drew a Qovernmout section at Otoko and the family was about to make it their home.
