PROGRESSIVE RANGITAUA.
- (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) IMPROVING THE TOWN. The whole of the loan of £2500 for ooustruotion and improvement of streets, etc, in the town has been sent forward by the Treasury. The new town is to be oongratnlated as the money lias arrived at the beßt time of the year, The County Council lias plans and specifications out for some of the work already and purposes calling for tenders for draining and metalling on or before the December meeting. The construction of Dreanonght road is badly needed to complete the road system into Ohakune railway station. A BIG MILL. The Powell Timber Preserving Syndicate are building a new sawmill in their birch forest of some thousands of acres, They are aIBO constructing some six miles of railway towards Moont Buapehu (to within six miles of the Bammit), altogether they are spending something like £30,000. We therefore expect a further influx of workers. There have been no unemployed here for six months. Good men can easily got employment. THE RDAPEHO TRACK. The hureo track to the mountain through the above birch forest, over which 140 tourists travelled last year, is now ready for the coming season's traffic, whioh we expeot will be abnormal. Altogether the prospects for Rangataua and the surrounding district are excellent. v the timber;tral>e. The average number of trucks leaving Kangitaua railway station is 25 equal to 00,000 feet of timber daily, a Bhunting engine being kept busy continually.
