RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK.

BIG ENGINE BUILDING PROGRAMME. (Press Association). , Oliristchurch, Last Night. The Hon. J. A. Millar informed a deputation 'of looal members of Parliament that it was iutended to build thirty engines in eighteon months in the Dominion. Ten "WF" engines would be built at Hillside, ten "B' 1 engines at Addington and tenders would be called for ten "A" engines. The work would be put in hand as soon as the material was available. The patterns were now in the Addington workshops. If tenders for the ten "A" engines wero not satisfactory tha workshops would be given a chance. They iuteuded to lay down ten eng nes in tho workflhops so that the men would be able to specialise and become expert in building. As soon as a man finished his part on one engine he would do the same to the next and so on. This would show whether the workshops could do the work as cheaply as the private shops, The Government inteuded to build 600 "L" waggons at the different workshops.. If fresh hands wero needed preference would be given to the men recently put off.
