It may be that the apathy Bhown in publio eoliool matters here is in oonsequence of the peculiar consiifcafcion of this ednoation district. Only when some snob inoiderit as that of College Street cops up is the public aiousetl, and it is a pity some leader does not arise to advocate the reconstruction of the educational ditriot and obtaining of live representation on tlio Wanganni Board meantimejin order topush our olaims. Years ago when Wanganni was the biggest town on the ooasfc and this was a village, it may have been all right to have the Manawatu taoked on to Wanganni, but now that this has grown into the larger and more important town, and is much more oentral it is absurd and detrimental to the cause of eduoation to oontiDue the anomaly. A oouple of years ago, the present Mayor of Palmerston and Chairman, of Terrace End Committee, moved in tho Chamber of Commerce in the direction of seouring a revision of education districts whioh would have oreated a distriot from the Rangitikei to the'Otaki rivers. Thereoowmendation was made but was not followed up. If the proposed dißtriot inoluded also, Woodville and Palliatua, it would be still better, but for the sake of the sohools in the districts concerned the change should' made, As it is Palmerston is practically voioeless in the government of the sohools in the most important centre of the whole distriot, and the most suooessfhl of the eduoational institutions of its type on the Weßt Coast, the .Teohnioal and High Sohool owes its success under great handicaps to the the wisdom with whioh it has been .kept out of the hands of the Wanganni Board.
