FEILDING NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Mr D. P.JBarret, the popular host of the Manchester Hotel here, lias scoured the publioan's boot!) at the Feiiding Rapecourse for the Easter and Spring Meeciugs. The residents of Feiiding will learn with regret that onr late esteemed townsman Mr A, E. Ratlifi has.died in Canada. Mr Rati Iff was associated for many years with the progress of the district, and only about a year ago sold his business here and transferred his interests to Canada. A visit was paid to Mr Gloyn's farm at Rongoteji on Monday last, where some enormous onions may be seen, many weighing one or Mr Gloyn planted four aores of the '"Globe" variety, and expects a yield of from nine to ten tons to the acre.

A very large funeral took place last Sunday afternoon, when the mortal remains of Richard Print, son of Mr R. Print of Taikorea were laid to rest in the Rongotea Cemetery. The little fellow died after an illness lasting only one day, and muoh sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents. For reasons of a private nature Mr H. Tolley has withdrawn from the Mayoral oontest. 1 should not be surprised if Mr W. J. B. Trewin allows himself to be nominated. FEILDING FIRE BOARD. The Feiiding Fire Board met in the Borough Council Chambers last evening. Present-Messrs MoEwen, Simpson, Bailey and Pirani. The tender of Mr A. Williamson of 19s 6rt for trousers and 29s for tunics was accepted. The Superintendent /was advised that the men would be paid for fires within the borough, but not for outside. The Superintendent and DeputySuperintendent were unanimously re-appointed for three months from April Ist. It was resolved that a letter received from thu Dnnedin Fire Board re holding enquiries into fires be held over pending information who Bhould defray the cost of enquiry. The New Zealand Aonideut Insurance Co. wrote offering to renew aooident insurance on the 'brigade oovering practice and Ares at 10s per man per annum, and a benefit of £3 per week for 22 weeks of total dis-ablement.-Agreed to.
