The Governor arrived at Whakatane on Saturday, Yesterday morning the party should have attended ft big Maori gathering at Ruatoki, but owing to the heavy rain the Governor had to cancel his arrangements. He will return to Rotorua to-day 7 Mrs Kennedy, late of Peilding, is visiting Palmerston, and staying at the Grand Hotel. Sir Win. MaoGregor, Governor of Newfoundland, has been appointed Governor of Queensland. Sir Gerald Strickland, Governor ' of Tasmania, has been appointed Governor of Westralia. Lieutenant Shackleton, of Antarofcio fame, will arrive in Wellington this week, and while theze will interview the Prime Miuipter. Mr Charles Allison, present Mayor of Ohristohuroh, informed a deputation that he will he a candidate at the approaohing eleotion. With reference to the serious aooident to Mr W. Logan, a member of the Woodville County Oonnoil, we take the following particulars from the Examiner :-Mr Logan left home early on Friday, taking the Masterton road to attend to some sheep. As he did not retain at night a searoh was made and at ten o'clock on Saturday morning neighbours notioed a horse lying dead at the bottom of a gully, and when they reaohed the spot Mr Logan was lying a few tee.t away from the horse. They thought him also dead, but after examination they found he was alive, but insensible. His left leg was broken above the knee and he was rather badly bruised. He was taken to the Palliatoa Hospital. It is thought that his horse stumbled and fell into the gully, a distanoe of fully 100 feet. The horse's neok was broken. Mr Logan at latest advice was progressing favourably.
