FEILDING NOTES.

Own Ooirespondent. Yesterday morning Mr F. Y. Lethbridge presented the pupils of Mahino aohuol with proficiency prizes In the course of his remarks he said that school was more interesting to the ohildren than it used to be and that the teachers put more heart into their work. A few years ago a sohoolmaster looked upon his work primarily as a means of earning a livlihood, but at the present time teachers oould do better at something else. The day would also oome, he said, when the ladies would sit upon eoliool committees.

FEILDING TECHNICAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Feilding Technionl Sohool Committee held its monthly meeting last night. Present: Messrs F. Pirani, ohairraan pro tem; Wm. Reed, J. Reed, Tolley, Bramwell, Trim, Hill, Lookhead, and Montgomery. An apologj was received from Mr E. Goodbehere. CORRESPONDENCE was reoeived from— W. J. Pearce, enolosing donation of £2 25.-Received with thanks, i Wanganui Eeducation Board, stating that Miss Grant would be at liberty on Thursday and asking if it is possible to arrange an afternoon cooking olass for girls.—Received. Students of plumbing olass, petitioning for a redaction of the quarterly fees from £1 5s to £1 Is, the old rate.-A oommittee to meet the plumbers on Thrusday night to disouss the matter.

DIRECTOR'S REPORT. The director reported that the art room had been equipped with folding desks and seats and the department was now well catered foi. The commercial room had been furnished with a large collapsible table capable of oarryingfltypewriters. The classes wore filling up woll in both oases. Only ono enquiry had beon received regarding the evening oookory olass. Up to the present 63 individual pupils had enrolled, making 138 pupils per week. With regard to the farming olass it was satisfactory to know that one pupil oame from Palmerston North. Pupils had been askod to take a' course of lessons instead of indivdiual olasses and 80 pej oeut. had done so. RESOLUTIONS,

It was resolved— That the Manawatu, Kiwitea, Oroua and Poliangina County Council be asked to renew thoir contributions.

That the Builders' Association be asked to send a representative and continue contributions. That representations bo marie to the Ministerto try and gather funds for the ereotion of a room for teohnioal purposes at Poliangina. That Mr E. Goodbehere be elected chairman for the forthcoming year.

WAITUNA DISTRICT SPORTS. The seventh annual Waituna sports meeting was held in Mr S. Williamson's paddoofe yesterday. /The attendance was very good, being about double that of last year. A Bum of £2l .was taken at the gates. There was also a heavy nomination list. The chief event of the day was the hunters' competition for a silver oup which had been subscribed to by the district. \Thiia waßwon by Ml H. 0. Hartley's Vendetta, The onp hid to be won twioe in succession or three times at intervals. The win was very popular. On the presentation being made by Mr E.
