Nominations for the office of Mayor close with Mr John Rankin, Town Clerk, at 12 o'olock, noon, today. There does not appear to be any opposition to the present Mayor, Mr Trewin, so that he will apparently be re-elected unopposed. This is Mr Trewin's third term. • Mr D. O'Oallaghan, who has reoently purchased Mr Ranger' a business here, has had great experience in manufacturing and repairing implements as welljas being a farrier of considerable knowledge. Hβ has be*»a about 25 years in the trade, and farmers will find him a man of experience. Mr O'Oallaghan only needs a tfial. Speaking .to a prominent Oolyton Dairy farmer yesterday he expressed the opinion that the present winter wae going" to be an exceptionally good one for dairymen in particular. The grass had come along splendidly , of late, and one had only to see the tests prevailing at the different factories to show that there was a good deal of substance in it. He instanced the tests obtained at Gillies factory •which run from 3.9 to 4.8 to show that his argument was sound. Questioned as to how Gillies factory was going to fare at the hands of the Oolyton people, he stated that the utmost satisfaction prevailed. There were seventeen suppliers, 2201bs of butter was being manufactured daily, and was all sold readily in Palmerston. Suppliers had an excellent arrangement with Mr Gillies who paid aooording to the price received, and they /were getting at the present time Is Id less bare working expenses, which were afr, aotion under the Id per lb of butter fat.
