A cablegram received from Rome last night stated that the Pope received the Right Rev. Dr. Verdon, Roman Catholic of Dunedin. The Hon. J. McGowan, Minister for Justice, who passed South from Auckland yesterday told a "Manawatu Times" representative that the growth of settlement is causing a general request for increased Courthouse accommodation over maDy districts. Mr Rous Martin formerly a well known Wellington journalist and successively editor of the Evening Post and New Zealand Times, has died suddenly in London of heart failure. Hβ was an authority on music and railway matters and has been for several years London correspondent of the Post and other journals.
