The trial of 37 Social Democratic members of;the second Duma and 17 soldiers and civilians, for complicity in the alleged military regicidal plot has begun here. A public hearing was refused. Thereupon accused asked to be sent back to prison and instructed counsel to withdraw. The prosecution then proceeded in their absence. The party has issued a statement that the accusation is a baseless pretext to justify alteration of the electoral law. One hundred thousand workmen and students in St. Petersburg and Moscow struck in sympathy with accused. _.
