FEILDING NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.)

Mr McLeod left Feilding yesterday on a short trip to the Auckland district.

Tho old racoliorse "Killaniey," whose performances have often gladdened the hearts of the racing public was the sole occupant of the Feilding public pound yesterday.

I understand that the Hon. MrMcNab, Minister of Lands, will inpsect the dairy school site placed under offer to the Government by Mr Lethbridge, before Christmas.

Speculators and others are reminded of the sale of the freehold land at Aorangi which takes place in Messrs Atkinson and Co. 's rooms on Friday evening at 8 p.m. Plans and all particulars cau be had on apSlication to the auctioneers or from [r A. Richmond, solicitor, Feilding.

It has been suggested to me that the Feilding Borough Council should purchase the ambulance van belonging to Mr Younger, which is to be sold by him on 18th December. This conveyance should certainly belong to the municipality.

Messrs Barton and Aylmer advertise a very attractive property in today's issue. The writer knows the place referred to Well, and can honestly recommend it to anyone in search of an ideal home. Barton and Aylmer's telephone number i 9 153 Feilding, and the P.O. box 69. The chilling plant or'ered by the Feilding Borough Council arrived last evening, and no time will be lost in installing it at the abattoirs. Mr Williamson is busily engaged in elaborating the appearance of the Council Chambers. He hopes to have his contract for the supply of new furniture, horseshoe table for the councillors, and desk for the Mayor ready for Thursday's Council meeting. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Plunket, passed through Feilding on the mail to Wellington last evening. Or. W. G. Pearce, of the Oroua County Council, informs me tbat the statement published in a contemporary to the effect that the Council had refused to consent to the dedication of roads through the Aoraugi Land Syndicate's land is absolutely xintrue. No such statement was ever made by Mr Pearce and he is annoyed to think that his name has been used in causing unpleasantness among residents interested. Mr Pearce has also been made to say that the roads would also have to be metalled. This Mr Pearce also says is a fabrication, as he lias always read the 1903 Act in such a way that to his mind persons cutting up property need only form and culvert such roads to get the consent of a County Council. It was explained to Or. Pearce that the Aorangi Syndicate not only intended making all roads 66ft wide, but would metal them, and do all other things which the law provided for, and he has informed me that, although he thought all roads in different subdivisions would be better to be formed before the land was sold so long as they were made to comply with the law no Council could make any objection. The Manchester [Rifles shooting committee met last' evening and accepted a challenge from the Palm erston North Rifles to fire a match on Saturday next at Feilding, ten men a-side. Following will represent the Manchester Rifles Captain Barltrop, Lieut. Domigan, Col.Sergt. Aitken, Sergts. Fisher and Trask, Vols. Balk, Evans, Mayliew, Parker, Pleasants and Stewart. A brake will meet the mail trian on Saturday and convey the visitors to the range.

OROUA TENNIS CLUB,

The following is the draw in the next round of the Championship Singles (ladies and gentlemen's), to be played by Saturday, 14th inst.: — Ladies'.—Miss M. Gould v. Miss Bray, Miss Skinner y. Miss Corbett, Miss G. Gould v. Miss Brown, Miss E. Thompson a bye.

DRUIDISM.

There was a very large attendance at the Makino Lodge of Druids last evening. The special business was eleotion and installation of officers for the ensuing six months. Bro. T. A. Hastings, A.D., presided and was ably assisted by Bro. Hyland, V.A., and other officers. A number of visitors were present from the Oroua Lodge, Palmerston; Dannevirke Lodge, Triumph Lodge, Rongotea; and elsewhere. District President Bro. S. Fullbrook was present in his official capacity and most impressively conducted the installation ceremony. The balance sheet and auditor's report were submitted, and . a very satisfactory state of affairs was shown. The sum of £16 13s 4d was paid out in sick pay for the Suarter jnst ended. The Sick and 'uneral Fund is £125 3s 2d. The Benevolent Fund is also in credit to the exteat of £6 Is 8d notwithstanding several payments having been made from it to assist distressed members. Forty-three members liave joined during the past six months which constitutes a record, and reflects credit on a number of energetic members, particularly Bro. J. Noble, who at the end of last quarter won the sash for having introduced most members during the previous six months. When the fact that the lodge has only been in existence eighteen months to-day is taken into consideration, the results are very creditable to those officers, and members who from its inception have taken a deep interest in its welfare. I refer to P. A. Bro. Robinson, Bros. G. Hill. Hyland, Garratt, Kelly, Bailtop, Askew, the treasurer, the secretary Bro. Hill, and many others. Bro. Hill's value as a secretary can be best described when I say that the auditors had nothing but praise for the manner in which they had found his books. At the conclusion of the business the lodge adjourned for harmony. Bro. A. 'J. Hart, the well-known caterer, provided an excellent supper. Several toasts were duly honored, including ■"Visiting Brothers," which was most heartily responded to by several members of the Oroua Lodge. The following are the new officers elected

A.D., Bro. M. Hyland; V.A., Bro. G. Garratt; Guardian (inside), Bro. Furness; Minute Secretary, Bro. Kelly; A.D. Bards, Bros. Paterson and Sarley; V.A. Bards, Bros. Kowler and McKenzie; Outside Guardian, F. Chappcll.

Bro. McMeekan's name was ordered to be put on the merit board,

he having passed through tho various offices.

Oldham, S.W., of Lodge Otaihape to the position of Worshipful Master of the same lodge, and investiture of officers. Visitors were present from Feilding, Palmerston. Wellington , Wanganui, Mar ton and elsewhere. The installation ceremony was performed by R. W. Bro. R. Fletcher, Grand Superintendent, assisted by M.W. Bro. H. J. Williams, P.G.M. Wor. Bro. W. G. The newly-elected W.M. proposed the "King and Craft." The National Anthem was then sung. Bro. H. F. Worsfold, P.M. of Lodge Feilding, proposed "The M.W.G.M. and officers of Grand Lodge." Other toasts honored were : "Worshipful Master," "Installing Master," "The Immediate Past Master," "Newly Elected Officers," "Sister Constitutions," "Visiting Brethren," "Tylers Toast," etc.

IMPORTANT LAND SALE

Messrs A. H. Atkinson and Co., Ltd., announce in another column that an important land sale will be conducted by them at their rooms on Saturday, December ■ 14th, at 2 p.m. There are 50 sections in all, immediately adjoining those recently sold on behalf of Dr. Johnston, and comprise some of the best building sites in the healthiest and most aristocratic part of the borough. The land is certainly of exceptional quality and investors should inspect tnis property. The terms have been arranged on an exceptionally liberal basis. In fact, nothing in this district has been previously placed in the market on term equal to those at which this subdivision is now offered to the public. Plans may be seen and full particulars obtained from A. H. Atkinson and 00., Ltd., at their offices in Feilding.

THE AORANGI LAND SALE.

To the Editor Manawatu Daily Times,

Sir—l should not have troubled about the contribution of your Feilding correspondent to the subdivision of lfjnd controversy only for the insinuation at the conclusion that the article in the Feilding Star to which he takes exception was a blow at the subdivision of the Aorangi estate which is to be offered for sale here on Friday nbxt. The bare facts that your correspondent is one of the members of the syndicate which is trying to sell the Aorangi land, that the Oroua County Council have refused to approve of the subdivision of the land until the roads are formed, and that the sale is being advertised in the Star at scale rates (and not at the price offered by the syndicate) are sufficient refutation of the insinuations. —I am, etc.,

FRED. PIRANI Feilding, 3rd Dec. '07.

[We have excised the last sentence in Mr Pirani's letter as we do not desire a libel action from the gentlemen constituting the Aorangi Syndicate. It will be quite feasible to Mr Pirani to make the charge contained in it in his own paper. We have also been informed of the statement made to a member of the syndicate by Mr Pirani, which resulted in the "advertising at scale rates" in the Star to which he refers.—Ed. "Times."]
