WOODVILLE MEETING.

The stewards of Woodville Jockey Clnb decided last night to allow bookmakers on the course on their paying £20 per day and £20 per day for their clerks. The other conditions are similar to those made at at Feildiug.

There is every indication of the W. J. 0. having another most successful gathering. That is practically assured ii the fates will only be a little kinder than usnal "to the club in the important factor of weather. The fixed penalties again operate very unsatisfactorily in connection with Chatterer in the principal event, but there are many others engaged at the meeting to whom a win would be more welcome.

Some sporting writers evidently allow prejudice to inflnenoe their writings. Here's a sample. '' Chatterer meets Moral at level weights to-day in the Woodville Handicap after being beaten by Moral in the Manchester Handicap at Feilding when Chatterer was in receipt of 10 lbs. from Mr Murray's Speedy, son of The Possible. 1 ' Such a statement is entirely erroneous. Chatterer was not beaten by Moral in the event mentioned for the simple reason that Chatterer took no part in the race. She merely went to the post and walked back to the paddock, without doing anything fur her than the customary preliminary.
