TERRACE END.
♦ Meeting of Residents. The adjourned meeting of residents of Terrace End to deal with matters of local interest took place last evening at tha Fire Brigade Hall. There was a good attendance and Mr R. Edwards was voted to the chair. The first business was dea - ing with the competition for a new name instead of Terrace End. There were 10& names sent in which were reduced after voting: to the following sixTe Kowhai, Huia, Brookville, Kenwyn, Lymington, Mahuta. In the competition 'Huia* appeared as 'Huia Terrace.' but the word Terrace was cut off and this competitor was awarded the first prize. The chairman decided to take suggestions from the meeting and the following were "forert : Te Matai, Herston, Mangahuia, Eton A Castlereagh, Te Eangi. On & further vote the name Te Eangi was chosen, A final vote was taken on the words Huia and .Te Eangi, and Te Kangi was chosen by a majority of one. The name selected will be submitted to the Council for approval to-night.
The next question dealt with was that of a site for the public hail. Ij was authoritatively announced that Mr O'Riley, of Awahuri, had generously promised to Rive a piece of land facing Main-street, south of the railway station. A deputation consisting of Messrs Edwards, Ryan and Overton were appointed to wait on Mr O'Biley to-day.
The proposal to sell the Hokowhitu recreation pound waa next considered, and it *as decided to ask the assistance of the Council in selling the ground and in procuring a more suitable site.
Th§ deputation selected at the previous meeting will wait on the Council to-night and place the matters considered before them. The speakers selected were: Messrs Edwards, Fairbrother, Byan and Gardner,
