THE U.F.C A. AND EMPLOYEES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I understand that you have not yet published a letter from one of our employees in connection with your report in last Saturday's Times re the man Geo. Lyall, who was fined for theft of beer You state that the fine was paid by the emplcyees of the firm. Now, this is misleading and most unfair to the many hands who are at present employed; as a matter of fact the fine was paid by some of his companions, who left when he was arrested. By publishing the above you will correct a misleading statement, which may have very far reaching effects.— Yours, etc., Charles E. Dempsy, Manager. The following is the only letter we have received, and it will be observed that the employee does not give his name for publication:— [to the editor.] Sir, —Your paragraph relating to the payment of the fine inflicted upon the man Lyall for theft from the U.F.C.A. store is incorrect. The fact is that the persons who paid the fine appeared from the body of the Court, and were two of the employees who had left the service of the Association that morning ostensibly because the man had been prosecuted. They were present during the hearing.— Yours, etc,. An Employee of the Association. Palmerston, May 4th. The letters speak for themselves. A plunge into the pocket is usually evidence of practical sympathy. The manager is apparently desirous that the correspondence should be published, and we therefore comply with his request.
