FOOTBALL.
4 Per PresF Association Na«kk, May 7. Tho Hawkes' Bay Rugby Union at their meeting to-night passed a resolution "That, this union views with disapproval tho movement now being made to send a professional team of footballers to England, and urge 3 the N.Z. Rugby Union to do its utmost to kill the proposal, as in the opinion of this Union it is likely to have a very damaging effect upon amateur Rugby football in the the future." The Manawatu Rugby Union met last evening. Present—Messrs Gibbons (in the chair), Stagpoole, Torsterson, Seeker, Manning, Maclean, Freeman, Armstrong, Eraser and the Secretary. ggThe offer of Dr Willis to act as hon. surgeon of the Union in Feilding was accepted with thanks. The Foxton sub-Union was accepted for affiliation on usual terms. This Union is entering five senior and three jnnior teams. An application for removal of Dunn's disqualification was not entertained. It was reported that the prospects of forming a sub-union in Eketahuna district were very bright. Recommendations were made to the Referees' Association asking them to report any players playing without colours, and to supply them with printed lists for the purpose of registering the players in each match. Several players were reported to the Union as being unfinanciol, and will not be allowed to take part in matches until subscriptions are paid. It was decided that season tickets admit one lady to ground and stand in addition to the holder. A donation of £1 Is from Mr A. D. Thomson was received with thanks. The Manawatu Referees' Association will meet to-night at Cotton's Rooms at 7.30. Every member is earnestly requested to attend as the business is of a most important nature, including—Conference of Referees regarding the interpretation of rules, to receive secretary's report of Conference, also to elect secretary vice Mr Pyne, resigned.
