HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The monthly meeting of above wa3 belli last evening. Present: Mr Rutheriurd (chairman), Revs C. C. Harper and I. Jolly, and Messrs J. L. Barnicoat, G. H. Bennett, W. Coliingwood, G. Hirsch, W. Park, W. T. Wood, M.H.R., and the Rector. CORRESPONDENCE. The Education Department wrote stating that it had been decided to observe May 24th as Empire Day to keep green the memory of the late Queen Victoria It was resolved that as this date fell during the school's winter holidays, the suggestions made for observance thereof could not be complied with. The sum of £150 amount of legacy left by the late Mr D. Manson was forwarded. The chairman, treasurer and Mr Barnicoat were appointed trustees to invest same.

Miss Opie wrote accepting position of second mistress. It was resolved to comply with request of secretary for Gore District High School for information re establishing a high school. The Finance and Ground Committee, rector's, and treasurer's reports were read and adopted. It was resolved to secure a seal for the Board to affix to teachers' agreements. Appreciation was expressed of efforts of Ground Committee and of recent work done m matter of drainage.

The rector's report on special prizes was hold over, TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

The committee of the above reported as follows Two mebtings have been held, ono on April 16th and one on May 6th. "We have to report that no less than 20 classes have been started since last meeting, making a total of 20, including the art classes. The number of studeats is 225, or including the art classes 307. The rooms in Cnba street have had to be furnished. We Ixave procured desks, chairs, tables, hat hooks, cupboard, sewing machine, and a few sundries. Application for a refund of money spent will be made to the department. It was proposed by Mr Bennett and carried, that the advisability of appointing a director .and taking active mea-niaes to secure the erection of a suitable building on a central site, be referred to the Technical Committee to draw up ;ind submit a scheme to the next meeting.

The Chairman brought up the question of a gymnasium for the school. The matter was referred to the Ground Committee.
