FIRES.
Per Press Ass' ciation. Auckland, May 6. A house in Argyle Street, Ponsonby, owned by Miss .W. H. Leys, was partly destroyed by fire on Saturday night. The building was tenanted by Martin Poulson, confectioner, and Henry McDonald, boot importer. The latter's stock was much damaged by water. It was insured for £300 in the Standard. Poulson lost everything, but his loss is covered by insurance. Mrs Bailey, Poulson's housekeeper, and three young children escaped in their nightdresses tlirough an upstairs' window and were assisted from the verandah. Dcnedin, May 6. A destructive fire oocurred at E. Ellis and Co.'s flock mill at Kaikora to-night. The general store und stables were gutted, and the manufactory had a narrow escape. The losses are estimated at £300, which is covered by insurance in the Guardian.
