DEATH OF MR R. S. BARRY.
We regret to have to record the death of Mr R. S. Barry, which occurred at his residence, Church street, yesterday. Mr Barry had been for a number of years in business in Palmerston, and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. Some time ago he 'ras attacked by a painful disease, which caused his death. A funeral service will bo held in the Presbyterian Church this afternoon, and the funeral will take place at Purewa. Auckland, on Wednesday morning. The late Mr Barry was a native of Ireland, and came out to the colony in '79, arriving in Auckland, where he resided until 1893, when he removed to Palmerston North, and commenced business here as an ironmonger, which ho very successfully conducted during the past 14 years. Among positions held by the late Mr Barry was that of director of the Palmerston Sash and Door Factory, while he was long associated with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, of which he was for a number of years one of the managers. He had been incapacitated for some three months, and despite the unremitting attention of Dr Martin and skilful nursing, the malady from which he suffered proved incurable, and he passed away as already stated at an early hour yesterday morning. A family of eight, five daughters and three sons, are left to mourn the loss of a devoted parent. One of the daughters is Mrs 11. T. Bush, of the Thames, while the remainder are unmarried, one being a teacher at the College-street School. Of the sons, the Eev. W. Barry is a missionary in India, and upon receiving cable advice of his father's serious illness, crossed the ocean and arrived in Palmerston on Wednesday last. Another son is Mr Samuel Barry, the ■well-known optician of Auckland, and the third, Mr Alexander Barry, of Ptihooiston North, who has gromiuehtly identified lillliself with Chinese mission work. To tilo bereaved widow and family we join ih the universal sympathy that will go out toward them in their time of mourning.
